The 130-ton Bristol Brabazon, the world's biggest landplane, moved under its own power for the first time today. Piloted by Mr. A. J. Flying Motor-Cycle Tames The Air -- The 'Hoppicopter' motor-cycle of the air, took the air - in a very small dose - in its first engine tests at Somerford Aerodrome, Christchurch, Hampshire. The 'Hoppicopter' based on the machine designed by the American, H.T. Pentecost, was airborne for only a few minutes, for it was tethered by steel cables. The 'Heliofly', a device which, strapped to the body, enables the wearer to take off in the street, climb to an altitude of 3,000 feet and fly Baumgartl, a 28-year-old Viennese technician, after three years' experiment and trial. The apparatus consists of an air screw resembling an autogyro's, and a motor; total weight does not exceed 30 pounds.
