New Plane Takes the Air - Pictured here for the first time as it takes off on a test flight is the new experimental aircraft, the Supermarine 525, a development of the Supermarine 508. It is powered by two Rolls Royce Avon engines and was flown for the first time, from Boscombe Downs, Wiltshire, by Lt. Cmdr M.J. Lithgow, who described the 20-minute flight as 'completely successful.'The aircraft is said to be the fastest ever designed for carrier use and the twin jet fighter ordered in quantity by the Admiralty a year ago will be directly developed from it.
