No Strings Attached -- The pilot prepares to take off in the one-man helicopter. The U.S. Air Force recently completed successful tests on a one-man helicopter designed for rescue and communication work. A similar machine was recently completed by a Salford England, motor mechanic, but its designer has been refused a licence enabling to test it properly. Regulations allow him to fly his helicopter to a height of 10 feet only - and the machine must by tethered to the ground. Unlike the unfortunate English designer, the American who built a one-man helicopter can see his invention properly tested. July 12, 1954. (Photo by Paul Popper, Paul Popper Ltd.).
