When Britain's biggest land plane, the Avro TUDOR II crashed at Woodford Airfield, Cheshire yesterday, Mr. Roy Chadwick, one of Britain's greatest air designed and three other men were killed. The plane had Just taken off for a test flight, it rose fifty feet and "crashed like a stone". Mr. Chadwick was the designer of the Lancaster bomber. August 24, 1947.

Lashed By Storm -- The Texas Tower, first of a series of early warning radar stations to guard the Atlantic coast, is being lashed today by a storm of hurricane violence. So far there have been no casualties among the 87 persons aboard. New Trolley -- The patrons of Rome's trolley cars will soon be accorded the opportunity of being squeezed into larger quarters. Fifty streamlined cars, a little over 60 feet long, are slated to ride the tracks. Two each month will be added to the present fleet, starting with the one shown here, which was recently introduced.
