For every machine destroyed, dozens have been turned back by the barrages of fire which these men have sent up into the skies. This H.A.A Battery R.A. was formed after the Munich crisis and is manned by titled people and business men of Oxford, teachers, butchers, professors, University men and M.A's all of whom are fighting together for the common cause. At a recent Investiture held by H.M. The King, there were three winners of the Victoria Cross - 23-year-old Major Richard Wakeford, Hampshire Regiment, one of Britain's youngest V.C.'s he won the award in an action near Cassino in Italy. He was wounded in the face, both arms and both legs. The second V.C. was presented to LT. Colonel Henry Foote, Royal Tank Corps for his gallantry during an action in the Western Desert after the battle of "Knightsbridge" when he kept open a vital corridor for the Guards. He was taken prisoner in November 1942, and transferred to Italy, from where he escaped to Switzerland. The third recipient of the V.C. was Lance-Corporal Francis Jefferson of the Lamcashire Fuiliers, who won the award in t

New Portrait of The Queen - One of two portraits of the Queen which are among the 339 exhibits at the Royal Society of portrait painters' annual exhibition in London. It is by W.E. Webster and after the exhibition closes will be sent to the corporation of Nairobi who commissioned it. Webster, who has been a member of the society for more than 30 years, made his painting after studying a number of photographs.
