First Army Decorations Of The War -- Captain Francis Peter Barclay (centre, holding stick) and Lance-Corporal Herbert Arthur Davis (almost behind him) receiving congratulations. Captain P. F. Barclay was awarded the Military Cross and Lance Corporal H. Davis the Military Medal. Both men belong to the Norfolk Regiment and their decorations were given for conspicuous gallantry and coolness on night patrol. Captain Barclay led his patrol far into the enemy lines and secured a house and then continues the reconnaissance. On their return they were fired at by the enemy and took cover in a ditch, but being without ammunition they withdrew without loss to our lines. March 25, 1940. Life in an Internment Camp for German Nazis. A working party of Nazi internees returning with buckets of coke for the kitchens through the gates of Camp Roosevelt, Hemer, Germany. At Hemer, in the British-occupied zone of Germany, 3,300 Nazis (mostly Gestapo and S.S. men) are interned in Camp Roosevelt, formerly a German prisoner-of-war camp Stalag 6b. The internees have their time fully occupied, because,in addition to their instructional centre where they are taught everything from dramatic art to brick-laying, they have all the camp chores to perform, such as working on the allotments and fetching coke for the kitchens. U.S. Forces Occupy Strategic Islands in South Pacific -- U.S. Marine raiders study the remains of a Japanese Zero fighter plane they discovered on one of the Russell Islands, when U.S. Forces occupied this strategic outpost 30 miles northwest of Guadalcanal in the Solomons several weeks ago. The plane crashed while attempting to reach its base after being hit by American gunfire. The American forces approached the Russells expecting a fight, but the Japanese had evacuated them and the occupation was completed without opposition. July 19, 1943.

Mr. Magnen, Vice-Chairman of the "Physique Nucleaire" of the College of France has invented with the aid of his collaborator Mr. Chanson, the first "Protonic" microscope. This machine is similar to the electronic microscope, but deffers from the latter by the fact that the shot which is used is the "Proton" and the optical deviation is Electrostatic instead of magnetic. This machine which obtains an enlargement of 500,00 times, will unable to study, amongst others, the microbes of diseases which up to this date one had not been able to detect. March 21, 1952.
