General Scrap- Salvage in Wartime Britain, 1943 Three members of the Youth Service help Mrs Holland and Mrs Hadley (just visible behind Mrs Holland) to empty a bone bin into a sack in Newport, Shropshire. The contents of the sack will then be taken to local collecting dump. The salvage vehicle can be seen behind them on the tree-lined street.

With the approach of Christmas Berlin's Blackmarket in the Tiergarten has renewed its activity. Buyers are Interested Only in toys which are the main items of business. Prices are astronomical. A Doll costs anything from £10, a teddy bear £20,or you can get a rocking horse for £37, efforts to stamp out the market by the allied forces aided by the Civil Administration appear to have met with little success.
