Britains Secret Oil Field. -- Men at work connecting up a pump, in the background a new well is being bored. A British oilfield, whose location must still be kept a secret is yielding oil at the rate of 100,000 tons a year. Experts who have drilled for oil in Persia are among the 1,000 workers in this once quiet village. Alamein Memorial Now Nearing Completion -- The Alamein Memorial, which is being built by the Imperial War Graves Commission at the battlefield Cemetery in the Western Desert in Egypt, is now nearing completion. The Memorial has been constructed by the Imperial War Graves Commission to the design of Sir Hubert Worthington, O.B.E., A.R.A., and consists of a cloister on the northern side of the battlefield Cemetery at El Alamein in the Western Desert. Within this cloister are inscribed the names of 11,945 officers and men of the Land and Air Forces of the Commonwealth who have no known grave. November 1, 1954.
