Sheds Blood for Greece-Cyprus Union -- A doctor and nurse take blood from a Greek Army Reserve Officer at Pyrgos, Peloponnesus, Greece, August 21, as Bishop Germanos of Elias look on. Nineteen other reserve officers gave blood at the same demonstration. The blood is to be sent half to British premier Sir Winston Churchill and half to Archbishop Makarios of Cyprus as a symbol of the officers' Willingness to shed their blood for the union of Greece and Cyprus. Archbishop Makarios is a firm supporter of such a union. August 23, 1954.
