Friday afternoon, October 22, 1948, the express train Batavia-Bandoeng is located at 4.50 pm two kilometers south of Poerwakarta, at Bendoel, because the rails had broken up through a gang terrorists over a distance of twenty meters. Immediately after the derailment, the train was taken under fire through the automatic weapons and guns, manned of an estimated fifty man, so that eight people were killed and wounded twenty-three. Riddled Car in Which Gurney Was Slain -- The bullet-riddled car in which Malaya's High Commissioner, Sir Henry Gurney, was ambushed and slain by terrorists on a lonely mountain road in Pahang State, while on the way to a week-end holiday centre at Fraser's Hill, Malaya.Terrorists opened fire from a well-prepared hilltop overlooking the road and Sir Henry was hit as he stepped from the car. Campbell can go faster in "Blue bird" tests prove: new water spend record attempt at 62 - with jet engine. Experiment in connection with Sir Malcolm Campbell's racing remote-boat "Blue Bird" have been completed in the Fairey Aviation Company's wind tunnel at Hayes, Middlesex, in preparation for Sir Maloolm's attempt to break his own world water speed record which he made in 1939 of 141.7 miles on hour, next May. The teats, in which a one-third scale model was used, show that Campbell, now 62 years of age, can appreciably exceed the highest speed he has so far attained on water. February 4, 1947.
