Gunnery Sgt. Chad R. Kiehl was one of a group of servicemembers currently deployed with USS Ashland that volunteered to interact with disabled children attending RIA, as part of a U.S. Naval Forces Central Command community relations event. Marines and Sailors the 24th MEU and USS Ashland visited the RIA center during their first liberty port in Bahrain. 24th MEU is currently on seven-month deployment aboard ships of the Nassau Amphibious Ready Group, and is serving as CENTCOM's theatre reserve force.

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. -- Students present their investigation project to their peers, scientists, engineers and education specialists during the NASA Explorer Schools Symposium at Kennedy Space Center in Florida. About 60 fourth- through 12-grade students from across the nation are at the center May 4-7 participating in tours of processing and launch facilities and the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame, as well as several educational activities and a career panel question-and-answer session. Fourth through sixth graders from the Migrant Summer School Program in Caldwell spent a day on Gowen Field, July 15, as part of STARBASE-Idahos forensic summer camp, where they learned about arson investigation, facial reconstruction and the basics of gathering accounts from eyewitness. They also spent some time touring the Idaho National Guards 204th Regional Training Institute and climbing on its tanks and Bradley Fighting Vehicles. More than 170 Idaho students from five different schools and agencies participated in STARBASE-Idaho summer camps this summer as the program expanded from a single camp for children of Idaho National Guardsmen to eight camps with three specially designed themes.

As part of the roll-out of the vocational lycée reform, Carole GRANDJEAN, the French Minister for Vocational Education, will be in Toulouse on Thursday 21 September to talk to students, apprentices and teachers from the aeronautics sector. ORLANDO, Fla. - The Pink Team participates in the regional FIRST robotics competition at the University of Central Florida in Orlando. The team is made up of students from Rockledge, Cocoa Beach and Viera high schools along the Space Coast of Florida. NASAs Kennedy Space Center is a sponsor of the team. The Pink Team finished sixth in the competition called "For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology," or FIRST, among about 60 high school teams hoping to advance to the national robotics championship. The team also took home the Industrial Design Award sponsored by General Motors.FIRST, founded in 1989, is a non-profit organization that designs accessible, innovative programs to build self-confidence, knowledge and life skills while motivating young people to pursue academic opportunities.
