Scene showing the impact of the fire which damaged Notre Dame Cathedral the morning after the fire was extinguished. On the 15 April 2019, fire broke out beneath the roof of the Cathedral. It was extinguished 15 hours later, however, the building's spire and most of the roof collapsed and some upper walls severely damaged. A large number of works of art and religious objects were removed and taken to safety in the early hours of the conflagration 13th-century rose windows, suffered little or no damage. Three people were injured. The cathedral's construction commenced in 1160; It was mostly finished by 1260. Notre-Dame suffered desecration during the French Revolution. In the 19th century, the cathedral was chosen as the site of the coronation of Napoleon I. It was also used on many state occasions such as the funerals of several presidents of the Third French Republic. In 1970 it was the site of the funeral service of Charles De Gaulle.
