Pig Food- Women's Voluntary Service Collects Salvaged Kitchen Waste, East Barnet, Hertfordshire, England, 1943 Pig farmer G Bailey rakes through one of his four vats of pig food, to make sure there are no solid pieces in it, such as bones or shells. Pigs aren't able to eat such items so it is essential to remove them from the food. Nothing is wasted in this process, as any fat produced whilst cooking these salvaged kitchen scraps at this farm just outside East Barnet, is sent off for use in a soap factory.
