They Drive by Night- the work of the Long-distance Lorry Driver in Wartime, England, UK, 1944 Lorry driver Fred Horrod checks his load before going to eat at a cafe on his journey from London to Manchester. According to the original caption, he left London at 8pm, and it is now about midnight. The cafe where he is breaking his journey for a late supper is called May's Cafe, and the sign says that service here is 'second to none'. Another lorry can be seen, parked at the roadside cafe. It belongs to Allied Freight Services Ltd.

Special hoist built on a 2 1/2 ton GMC truck is used to facilitate loading and unloading material on a C-54 "Skymaster." This hoist saves many man-hours in handling supplies for air movement.
