Synagogue in Florence The large synagogue of Florence or the Tempio Maggiore was built from 1874 to 1882 during the Second World War, the German Wehrmacht used the synagogue as a vehicle garage. In August 1944, Nazi associations wanted to break the synagogue together with Italian fascists. However, Italian resistance was able to defuse most explosive devices.
