Hibiscus rosa-sinensis lutea. Yellow hibiscus . "The different varieties of this splendid plant are much cultivated for their beauty in India and China: from the latter country our present subject was lately introduced by the Horticultural Society. It flowered in the month of July.". Drawn by T. Boys, engraved by George Cooke. Conrad Loddiges and Sons published an illustrated catalogue of the nursery's plants entitled the Botanical Cabinet. The monthly magazine featured 10 hand-coloured illustrations and ran from 1817 to 1833 to total 2,000 plates. The publication introduced many exquisite camellias from China, exotic orchids and lilies from the New World, and about 100 varieties of heaths from South Africa, which were currently in vogue. (The Victorian era saw a series of manias for flowers - from roses and camellias to heaths, ferns and orchids.). Most of the plates were drawn by the author George Loddiges and local engraver George Cooke (1781~1834). The others were drawn by Loddiges

Plate 131, Fritillaria Imperialis; from "Les Liliacées" 1802-16 Pierre Joseph Redouté Published in eighty parts between 1802 and 1816, Les liliacées is Redoutés largest and most ambitious work, and perhaps the one for which he is best known today. Each of its 503 plates contains a lifesize and naturalistic depiction of a flower, carefully rendered in stipple engraving and watercolor. Redouté created the portfolio under the patronage of Josephine Bonaparte, who cultivated a great variety of flowers in her garden at the Chteau de Malmaison. Given the inclusion of scientific details in this drawing, it must have been made for him. Along with the leaves and the flower, Van der Vinne depicted the corona and one of the stamens.

Study of a Tulip (Gemarmerde van Jasper), c. 1645. Pieter Holsteyn II (Dutch, c.1612-1673). Brush and watercolor in crimson, grey, and green over traces of charcoal on antique laid paper; sheet: 32 x 21.1 cm (12 5/8 x 8 5/16 in.). This image of a tulip was made as part of a tulip book used as a growers marketing tool during the so-called tulip mania, a speculative bubble in 17th-century Holland, when ten tulip bulbs could cost more than a stately Amsterdam canal house. The striations on the tulip, which were caused by a virus in the bulb, made it especially valuable. Pieter Holsteyn II was one of many artists in the Netherlands at the time who specialized in botanical illustration. This tulip's Dutch name, inscribed on the sheet, translates roughly to "marriage of jasper stone."
