Striding Figure ca. 2575-2465 B.C. Old Kingdom The forceful features and developed musculature of this figure are very striking. Traces of paint indicate that he had a moustache and wore a broad collar. The statue has recently been identified as one probably from a tomb at the southern site of El Kab that may date from the early Fourth Dynasty. The style, which has no good parallels in Old Kingdom statues found at Saqqara and Giza, would seem to reflect a regional style.. Striding Figure 543903

Shabti of Wahneferhotep ca. 1981-1640 B.C. Middle Kingdom This shabti wears a modified nemes, a type of head covering worn by the king, and bears a spell enabing the owner to avoid the burden of labor in the afterlife. It was covered with gold leaf except for the wig, which was covered with stucco painted blue. It was found wrapped in linen bandages, laid on its left side inside a miniature coffin (14.3.69a, b that was inscribed with funerary spells as if it were a full-size coffin. Such objects were usually placed in tombs, but this set was found near the pyramid of Senwosret I, likely as a kind of votive offering.See also Shabti and Coffin of Wahneferhotep. Seated Statue of the Nomarch Idu II of Dendera. Dimensions: H: 60.5 cm (23 13/16 in.). Dynasty: Dynasty 6. Reign: Reign of Pepi II. Date: ca. 2246-2152 B.C..Discovered in his mastaba tomb at Dendera, this statue represents the nomarch (governor) of a province of Upper Egypt during the late Old Kingdom. This man, Idu II, wielded considerable power during the long reign of Pepi II, the last king of Dynasty 6. Created by a provincial artist, the figure has very large eyes and somehwat unconvential proportions, and is seated on a high-backed chair instead of the more common block seat. He wears a shoulder-length curled wig and a short kilt adorned by a beaded apron, indicated by a triangle on the front of the skirt. Traces of the original color -- black for the wig and chair, red for the skin, and white for the kilt, are still visible.Since only fragments of the statues buried in the tomb of Perneb have been preserved (see 14.3.105-.106), this statue of Idu II is displayed in Perneb's serd

Mummy Mask of Khonsu ca. 1279-1213 B.C. New Kingdom, Ramesside Khonsu's mask was placed over the head and shoulders of his mummy. It is made of a wooden frame and cartonnage, a material made of plaster and linen. The shape is similar to the upper portions of Khonsu's inner coffin (86.1.2a, b). Gold Inlaid wedjat eyes and now-missing vitreous inlays decorated his crow,n and wedjat eyes seem to have ornamented the bracelets on his arms.Nefertum was the son of the lion-goddess Sakhmet, and is sometimes envisioned as the son of Bastet or certain other great female lion goddesses. In himself he is associated with the opening of the lotus at dawn and is, therefore, associated with the sun and creation.. The defaced sarcophagus of King Akhenaten of Egypt. The sarcophagus was found in Tomb KV55, in the Valley of the Kings in Egypt. It was discovered by Edward R. Ayrton in 1907. Akhenaten, known before the fifth year of his reign as Amenhotep IV, was an ancient Egyptian pharaoh of the 18th Dynasty who ruled for 17 years and died perhaps in 1336 BC or 1334 BC. He introduced the monotheistic belief in the Aten or Sun God.

Limestone dyade of man and wife. Eighteenth Dynasty, about 1350 BC. The elaborate coiffure and pleated costumes worn by the unnamed man and his wife indicate a date in the later part of the Eighteenth Dynasty for this fine dyad. The lack of inscription suggests the pieve was unfinished.

Egypt Luxor Karnak Temple Of Ramses, Egypt

Grave stele. Boeotian poros. Found at Tanagra in Boeotia. This unusual stele, one of the earliest known funerary monuments was erected by Amphalkes on the grave of Dermys and Kitylos, as recorded in the inscription. The two dead youths, possibly brothers, are shown embracing one another. Dermys stands on the left, Kitylos on the right. At top, the stele would have been crowned originally by a seated Sphinx. First quarter of the 6th century BC.

Head of Ahmose I ca. 1550-1525 B.C. New Kingdom For the Egyptians, two of their greatest kings were Mentuhotep II of Dynasty 11 (ca. 2051-2000 B.C.) and Ahmose I of Dynasty 18. Separated by five centuries, each of these rulers was responsible for reuniting Egypt after a period of disunity, one ushering in the Middle Kingdom and one the New Kingdom.This slightly over-lifesize head represents Ahmose I wearing the white crown, a symbol of upper Egypt. The face is broad and relatively flat, with a taut, smiling mouth. These features seem to be influenced by representations of Mentuhotep II whose statues still would have been prominent at Thebes in Ahmose's time, and it is no wonder that Ahmose chose to emulate his illustrious predecessor. The large, slanting, prominent eyes, however, convey an intensity that seems to herald the energetic Thutmoside style of Dynasty 18.. Head of Ahmose I 547950
