ISS026-E-010223 (14 Dec. 2010) --- Russian cosmonaut Oleg Skripochka, Expedition 26 flight engineer, uses the Russian Tekh-38 VETEROK (Breeze”) science hardware to take aero-ionic concentration measurements in the Rassvet Mini-Research Module 1 (MRM1) of the International Space Station.

S103-E-5247 (22 December 1999) --- Astronaut Jean-Francois Clervoy, mission specialist representing the European Space Agency (ESA), takes out-the-window pictures during the first space walk onthis third visit by NASA astronauts to service the Hubble Space Telescope (HST).

STS079-S-082 (16-26 Sept. 1996) --- Cosmonaut guest researcher Shannon W. Lucid and Valeri G. Korzun, her Mir-22 commander, are pictured on the Spektr Module aboard Russia's Earth-orbiting Mir Space Station. Korzun was the third of four commanders that Lucid served with during her record-setting 188 consecutive days in space. Later, Lucid returned to Earth with her fourth commander-astronaut William F. Readdy-and five other NASA astronauts to complete the STS-79 mission. During the STS-79 mission, the crew used an IMAX camera to document activities aboard the space shuttle Atlantis and the various Mir modules. A hand-held version of the 65mm camera system accompanied the STS-79 crew into space in Atlantis' crew cabin. NASA has flown IMAX camera systems on many Shuttle missions, including a special cargo bay camera's coverage of other recent Shuttle-Mir rendezvous and/or docking missions.

S123-E-005624 (13 March 2008) --- Astronaut Dominic Gorie, STS-123 commander, works the controls on the aft flight deck of Space Shuttle Endeavour during flight day three activities.

STS096-361-025 (29 May 1999) --- Astronaut Kent V. Rominger, mission commander, is about to accomplish the successful docking of Discovery to the International Space Station (ISS). Rominger is at the shuttle's controlson the aft flight deck. The docking mechanism of the approaching station is just a few meters away on the other side of the overhead window. Rominger was joined by four other American astronauts, a Canadian astronaut and a Russian cosmonaut for almost ten days in space, most of which were devoted to preparing the ISS.

ISS011-E-09405 (21 June 2005) --- Cosmonaut Sergei K. Krikalev, Expedition 11 commander representing Russia's Federal Space Agency, moves stowage items from the Unity node into the Pressurized Mating Adapter (PMA-3) of the International Space Station (ISS).

iss060e045088 (Aug. 27, 2019) --- Expedition 60 Flight Engineer Andrew Morgan of NASA works with the Multi-use Variable-g Platform (MVP) Experiment Module used in the MVP Cell-02 investigation aboard the International Space Station. The MVP enables space biology research into a variety of small organisms such as fruit flies, flatworms, plants, fish, cells, protein crystals and many others.

S119-E-006405 (17 March 2009) --- Astronaut John Phillips, STS-119 mission specialist, aims a handheld laser ranging device -- designed to measure the distance between two spacecraft -- through one of the overhead windows on the aft flight deck of Space Shuttle Discovery to track the range of the International Space Station during rendezvous operations.

ISS014-E-09446 (11 Dec. 2006) --- Astronaut William A. (Bill) Oefelein, STS-116 pilot, moves a stowage bag through the Destiny laboratory of the International Space Station while Space Shuttle Discovery was docked with the station.

Tanner and Heidemarie M. Stefanyshyn-Piper are preparing for the third and final of three spacewalks this week on the International Space Station.

S93-33101 (5 Apr 1993) --- Wearing a training version of Space Shuttle Extravehicular Mobility Unit (EMU), astronaut Kathryn C. Thornton uses the giant pool of the Johnson Space Center's (JSC) Weightless Environment Training Facility (WET-F) to rehearse for the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) repair mission. Standing on a mobile foot restraint connected to the Shuttle's robot arm, Thornton grasps a large structure which attaches to the Wide Field/Planetary Camera (WF/PC). The current WF/PC on the HST will be replaced with WF/PC-2. Out of frame is astronaut Thomas D. Akers, who will join Thornton in STS-61 EVA. A SCUBA-equipped diver can be seen in the background. A number of divers are on hand for all training sessions in the WET-F. A total of five extravehicular activity (EVA) sessions will be conducted during the scheduled December mission of the Endeavour.

ISS009-E-08824 (27 May 2004) --- Cosmonaut Gennady I. Padalka, Expedition 9 commander representing Russias Federal Space Agency, works at the Simvol-Ts workstation in the Zvezda Service Module of the International Space Station (ISS) during the docking approach of the Progress 14 spacecraft.

KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FLA. -- In the Operations and Checkout Building high bay, STS-47 Payload Specialist Dr. Mamoru Mohri is participating in a Mission Sequence Test of the Spacelab-J (SL-J). Also on hand for the test of planned on-orbit activities were Payload Commander Mark Lee and other members of the payload team. Spacelab-J is a joint effort between the Japanese space agency NASDA and NASA, and features an array of 44 life science and materials processing investigations. Dr. Mohri, a payload specialist, will become the first Japanese to fly on the Shuttle.

ISS036-E-030115 (9 Aug. 2013) --- European Space Agency astronaut Luca Parmitano, Expedition 36 flight engineer, using a Russian AK-1M absorber, samples the air in the newly attached Japanese "Kounotori" H2 Transfer Vehicle-4 (HTV-4) docked to the International Space Station's Harmony node.

STS-36 Mission Specialist (MS) David C. Hilmers points the large-format AEROLINHOF camera out overhead window W7 on the aft flight deck of Atlantis, Orbiter Vehicle (OV) 104. Hilmers records Earth imagery using the camera. Hilmers and four other astronauts spent four days, 10 hours and 19 minutes aboard OV-104 for the Department of Defense (DOD) devoted mission.

ISS032-E-020821 (20 Aug. 2012) --- Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency astronaut Aki Hoshide, Expedition 32 flight engineer, wearing a communication headset, works in the Zarya Functional Cargo Block (FGB) of the International Space Station.

S127-E-006246 (16 July 2009) --- NASA astronaut Mark Polansky, STS-127 commander; and Canadian Space Agency astronaut Julie Payette, mission specialist, are pictured on the aft flight deck of Space Shuttle Endeavour during flight day two activities.

JSC2001-E-06420 (27 February 2001) --- Astronaut Steven W. Lindsey, mission commander, occupies commanders station during mission training in one of the high fidelity trainers/mockups in the Systems Integration Facility at Johnson Space Center (JSC). The STS-104 mission to the International Space Station (ISS) represents the Space Shuttle Atlantis' first flight using a new engine and is targeted for a liftoff no earlier than June 14, 2001.

ISS035-E-030128 (28 April 2013) --- Most of the six Expedition 35 crew members got haircuts on April 28 in the Unity node of the Earth-orbiting International Space Station. Here, NASA astronaut Tom Marshburn trims the head of Russian cosmonaut Pavel Vinogradov.

STS057-39-021 (21 June-1 July 1993) --- Astronaut Peter J. K. (Jeff) Wisoff, mission specialist, monitors the Fluid Acquisition and Resupply Experiment (FARE II), housed in four middeck lockers onboard the Space Shuttle Endeavour. The successor to FARE I (STS 53, 1992), FARE II was designed to demonstrate the effectiveness of a device to alleviate the problems associated with vapor-free liquid transfer.

ISS029-E-027431 (17 Oct. 2011) --- In the International Space Stations Destiny laboratory, Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency astronaut Satoshi Furukawa, Expedition 29 flight engineer, activates the Microgravity Science Glovebox (MSG) in preparation for work with the Selectable Optical Diagnostics Instrument Colloid (SODI-COLLOID) hardware.

Docking occurred at 8:29 a.m. (EDT) at the stations Poisk Mini-Research Module 2 (MRM2).

ISS032-E-016966 (10 Aug. 2012) --- NASA astronaut Joe Acaba, Expedition 32 flight engineer, uses a still camera while conducting a session with the Capillary Flow Experiment (CFE) Vane Gap-2 (VG2) in the Harmony node of the International Space Station. CFE observes the flow of fluid, in particular capillary phenomena, in microgravity.

ISS017-E-012288 (31 July 2008) --- NASA astronaut Greg Chamitoff, Expedition 17 flight engineer, works with the Shear History Extensional Rheology Experiment (SHERE) rheometer inside the Microgravity Science Glovebox (MSG) in the Columbus laboratory of the International Space Station.

STS079-353-007 (16-26 Sept. 1996) --- Astronaut Terrence W. Wilcutt, on the Space Shuttle Atlantis' aft flight deck, takes pictures of Earth for study by Earth observations scientists at the Johnson Space Center (JSC). Several components of the docked Russia's Mir Space Station can be seen in the background. This photograph is one of fifteen 35mm frames (along with four 70mm frames) of still photography documenting the activities of NASA's STS-79 mission, which began with a September 16, 1996, liftoff from Launch Pad 39A the Kennedy Space Center (KSC) and ended with a landing at KSC on September 26, 1996. Onboard for the launch were astronauts William F. Readdy, commander; Wilcutt, pilot; John E. Blaha, Jerome (Jay) Apt, Thomas D. Akers and Carl E. Walz, all mission specialists. ISS036-E-029215 (5 Aug. 2013) --- At the robotics workstation in the International Space Stations Cupola, NASA astronaut Chris Cassidy, Expedition 36 flight engineer, participates in onboard training activity in preparation for the grapple and berthing of the Japanese "Kounotori" H2 Transfer Vehicle-4 (HTV-4) set for August 9. Cassidy and NASA astronaut Karen Nyberg will use Canadarm2, the station's Canadian Space Agency-provided robotic arm, to reach out and capture the vehicle for its installation on the Earth-facing port of the Harmony node.

STS066-21-029 (3-14 Nov. 1994) --- On the space shuttle Atlantis' aft flight deck, astronaut Ellen Ochoa, payload commander, supports the Atmospheric Trace Molecule Spectroscopy (ATMOS) experiment with a checkout of a pair of 8mm video tape recorders. Note Atlantis' addition of the lower body restraint device (left) used to support crew members spending long periods of stationary time at the aft flight deck. Ochoa joined four other NASA astronauts and a European mission specialist for 11-days in space in support of the Atmospheric Laboratory for Applications and Science (ATLAS-3) mission.

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. - Inside Orbiter Processing Facility-1 at NASAs Kennedy Space Center in Florida, technicians prepare to re-install the three fuel cells in space shuttle Discoverys mid-body.The fuel cells were removed and drained of all fluids. The hydrogen and oxygen dewars which feed reactants to the fuel cells remain in Discoverys mid-body and have been purged with inert gases and vented down. The work is part of the Space Shuttle Programs transition and retirement processing of shuttle Discovery. Discovery is being prepared for display at the Smithsonians National Air and Space Museum, Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly, Va.

(27 June 1982) --- Astronaut Henry W. Hartsfield Jr., STS-4 pilot, has just torn off a rather prolific gathering of hard copy print-outs from the teleprinter aboard the Earth-orbiting space shuttle Columbia during NASAs fourth orbital flight test. The teleprinter is located in the middeck area of the reusable spacecraft.

ISS035-E-029733 (26 April 2013) --- Russian cosmonaut Alexander Misurkin, Expedition 35 flight engineer, takes pictures of the approaching Progress 51 cargo vehiclethrough a small window on the Zvezda service module of the Earth-orbiting International Space Station. The six crew members aboard the orbital outpost welcomed the Progress' arrival on April 26.

KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FLA. -- STS-95 Payload Specialist John H. Glenn Jr., who also is a senator from Ohio, adjusts a a video camera in the SPACEHAB trainer at the SPACEHAB Payload Processing Facility in Cape Canaveral. Mission Specialist Scott E. STS98-E-5115 (11 February 2001) --- This medium shot, photographed with a digital still camera, shows STS-98 pilotMark L. Polansky looking through the observation port on Unity's closed hatch to the newly attached Destiny laboratory. The crews of Atlantis and the International Space Station opened the laboratory shortly after this photo was made on Feb. 11; and the astronauts and cosmonauts spent the first full day of what are planned to be years of work ahead inside the orbiting science and command center. Station commander William M. (Bill) Shepherd opened the Destiny hatch, and he and shuttle commander Kenneth D. Cockrell ventured inside at 8:38 a.m. (CST), Feb. 11. As depicted in subsequent digital images in this series, members of both crews went to work quickly inside the new module, activating air systems, fire extinguishers, alarm systems, computers and internal communications. The crew also continued equipment transfers from the shuttle to the station.

ISS022-E-071573 (24 Feb. 2010) --- Russian cosmonaut Oleg Kotov, Expedition 22 flight engineer, works with samples from the bioscience experiment ASEPTIC (BTKh-39) in the Russian Glavboks-S (Glovebox) located in the Poisk Mini-Research Module 2 (MRM2) of the International Space Station.

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. -- At Launch Pad 39A at Kennedy Space Center, technicians load replacement parts for the Zvezda service module toilet on the International Space Station aboard space shuttle Discovery. The toilet malfunctioned last week and was initially repaired by replacing a microprocessor valve. After the station crew members experienced additional difficulties with the toilet, they were directed to use Soyuz toilet facilities at first and are using the main toilet again after rigging a urine bypass. The spare toilet parts have been added to Discoverys manifest for delivery to the station on the STS-124 mission. On the 14-day mission, Discovery and its crew will deliver the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency's Japanese Experiment Module - Pressurized Module and the Japanese Remote Manipulator System. Launch is scheduled for 5:02 p.m. EDT May 31.

ISS030-E-178667 (31 March 2012) --- NASA astronaut Dan Burbank, Expedition 30 commander, works in the newly attached European Space Agencys Edoardo Amaldi Automated Transfer Vehicle-3 (ATV-3). The ATV docked with the space station on March 28, 2012.

ISS039-E-013206 (20 April 2014) --- Inside the Cupola on the International Space Station, Expedition 39 Commander Koichi Wakata of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) has both hands on controls during activities involving the capture and berthing of the SpaceX Dragon on April 20, 2014. NASA astronaut Rick Mastracchio, Expedition 30 flight engineer, is largely obstructed to Wakata's left, and Flight Engineer Steve Swanson of NASA is mostly out of frame at left.

AX-2 Dragon Crew Members Arrival. iss069e013999 (May 22, 2023) - Axiom Space private astronaut and Axiom Mission-2 Mission Specialist Rayyanah Barnawi enters the International Space Station shortly after the hatches were opened between the orbital outpost and the SpaceX Dragon Freedom spacecraft. Welcoming her inside the vestibule between the station's Harmony module and Dragon is NASA astronaut and Expedition 69 Flight Engineer Frank Rubio.

S115-E-05352 (11 Sept. 2006) --- Astronaut Brent W. Jett Jr., STS-115 commander, sits in the port seat on the flight deck of the Space Shuttle Atlantis at it approaches the International Space Station. The subsequent docking will allow the STS-115 astronauts and the Expedition 13 crew to team up for several days of key tasks in space.

STS072-306-024 (11-20 Jan. 1996) --- Astronaut Daniel T. Barry sleeps on the middeck of the Earth-orbiting Space Shuttle Endeavour. The sleeping bag is considered advantageous primarily because it restricts movement in the microgravity environment, as Barrys crew mates pointed out during a televised NASA briefing following the mission.

ISS013-E-28593 (30 May 2006) --- Cosmonaut Pavel V. Vinogradov, Expedition 13 commander representing Russia's Federal Space Agency, and astronaut Jeffrey N. Williams, NASA space station science officer and flight engineer, attired in Russian Orlan spacesuits, look over a checklist in the Pirs Docking Compartment of the International Space Station as they prepare for a spacewalk scheduled for June 1.

STS077-307-020 (19-29 May 1996) --- Astronaut Mario Runco, Jr., mission specialist, is pictured at the controls for the Remote Manipulator System (RMS) on the aft flight deck of the Space Shuttle Endeavour. Runco and five other astronauts went on to spend almost ten days aboard Endeavour in support of the Spacehab 4 mission and a number of other payloads.

S134-E-008468(22 May 2011) --- The feet and lower legs of NASA astronaut Michael Fincke in the airlock prior to the STS-134 missions second space walk, and Finckes first for the flight so far. A little later, astronauts Fincke and Andrew Feustel (left side of the frame) both mission specialists, coordinated their shared activity with NASA astronaut Greg Chamitoff (out of frame), who stayed in communication with the pair and with Mission Control Center in Houston from the shirt sleeve environment inside the ISS.

ISS038-E-005023 (20 Nov. 2013) --- At a window in the International Space Stations Zvezda Service Module, Russian cosmonaut Oleg Kotov, Expedition 38 commander, uses a digital camera photospectral system to perform a session for the Albedo Experiment. The experiment measures Earths albedo, or the amount of solar radiation reflected from the surface, in the hopes to develop methods to harness the reflected radiation to supplement the stations power supply. The light reflection phenomenon is measured in units called albedo.

ISS034-E-045753 (11 Feb. 2013) --- Russian cosmonaut Oleg Novitskiy, Expedition 34 flight engineer, monitors data at the manual TORU docking system controls in the Zvezda Service Module of the International Space Station during approach and docking operations of the unpiloted ISS Progress 50 resupply vehicle. Progress 50 docked with the stations Pirs docking compartment at 3:35 p.m. (EST), delivering 1,764 pounds of propellant, 110 pounds of oxygen and air, 926 pounds of water and 3,000 pounds of spare parts, experiment hardware and logistics equipment --- 2.9 tons of supplies in all. The space freighter launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan at 9:41 a.m. (8:41 p.m. Kazakhstan time) on an accelerated, four-orbit journey to rendezvous with the station.

S82-E-5016 (12 Feb. 1997) --- Astronaut Steven A. Hawley, STS-82 mission specialist, controls Discovery's Remote Manipulation System (RMS), from the aft flight deck. Hawley and his crew mates are preparing for a scheduled Extravehicular Activity (EVA) with the Hubble Space Telescope (HST), which will be pulled into the Space Shuttle Discovery's cargo bay with the aid of the Remote Manipulator System (RMS). A series of EVA's will be required to properly service the giant telescope. Hawley served as a mission specialist on NASA's 1990 mission which was responsible for placing HST in Earth-orbit. Astronaut Merbold, assisted by astronaut David Hilmer, are conducting the Visual Simulator Experiment, a space physiology experiment. The Visual Stimulator Experiment measures the relative importance of visual and vestibular information in determining body orientation. When a person looks at a rotating visual field, a false sensation of self-rotation, called circularvection, results. In weightlessness, circularvection should increase immediately and may continue to increase as the nervous system comes to rely more on visual than vestibular cues. As Astronaut Merbold stares into the rotating dome with a pattern of colored dots and its interior, he turns a knob to indicate his perception of body rotation. CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. - In the Orbiter Processing Facility at NASA's Kennedy Space Center, STS-125 Commander Scott Altman examines the cockpit window on space shuttle Atlantis, checking for sharp edges. The inspection is part of the crew equipment interface test, which provides hands-on experience with hardware and equipment for the mission. Atlantis is targeted to launch Oct. 8 on the STS-125 mission to service the Hubble Space Telescope. The mission crew will perform history-making, on-orbit surgery” on two important science instruments aboard the telescope. After capturing the telescope, two teams of spacewalking astronauts will perform the repairs during five planned spacewalks.

A diver tests a secondary camera and maneuvering platform in Marshall's Neutral Buoyancy Simulator (NBS).The secondary camera will be beneficial for recording repairs and other extra vehicular activities (EVA) the astronuats will perform while making repairs on the Hubble Space Telescope (HST). The maneuvering platform was developed to give the astronauts something to stand on while performing maintenance tasks. These platforms were developed to be mobile so that the astronauts could move them to accommadate different sites.
