Hassett, OBE, (centre) chats with senior BCOF officers on his arrival in Japan en route to Korea to assume command of 3 Bn RAR. At left is Lt.-Col. F. E. Whitelaw; Group-Captain A. D. Charlton (facing Lt.-Col. Hassett), the commander of 91 (c) wing RAAF, and at right, Lt.-Col. D. G. Coleman. Lt.-Col Hassett, a brilliant career soldier, graduated from the Royal Military College in 1938, and in World War II held all posts from Battalion Adjutant to GSO I. He was a lieutenant-colonel at 23, and was wounded in the Middle East. His services earned him an OBE. July 16, 1951.
