A Torpedo wagon loaded with nitroglycerine in the oil regions of Pennsylvania. When well drilling reached oil, nitroglycerine torpedoes were lowered into the well and then exploded, creating a local earthquake that broke up the rock allowing the oil to flow more freely, often causing gushers.
