The US National Rifle Association, according to a statement last fall by its executive _ vice-president, "concurs in principle with the desirability of removing from the marketplace crudely made and unsafe handguns." Since the NRA is the kingpin of the alliance of hunters, target shooters and gun manufacturers commonly dubbed the "gun lobby," it would seem that a bill to outlaw the production and sale of "Saturday-night specials" the cheap handguns used for many murders, frequently on Saturday nights - would sail through Congress.
