First Train on the Stockton and Darlington Railway - 1825 drawn by Stevensons No. 1. The world's first public railway to use steam locomotives, its first line connected collieries (a coal mine and the buildings and equipment associated with it) near Shildon with Darlington and Stockton-on-Tees in County Durham, and was officially opened on27 September 1825. Locomotion No. 1 hauled the first train on the Stockton and Darlington Railway, and became the first locomotive to run on a public railway.Locomotion No 1, which was originally named 'Active,' was an early British steam locomotive train. It was built by Robert Stephenson and Company in 1825 for the Stockton and Darlington Railway.

Cholera epidemic. France. Paris. Fumigation of travellers coming from Toulon and Marseille (port cities through which cholera was introduced from Asia), at the Paris-Lyon-Mediterranee railway station. Passengers and luggage were disinfected in a room by means of intense nitrous vapours for half an hour. As soon as the train arrived, passengers were moved to a special room which was immediately sprayed with sodium phenate, in considerable proportion, and there they were subjected to the action of the pungent vapours exhaled by some devices, charged with crystals of nitrous sulphuric acid. This illustration dates to the 1870s and shows the Gower Street Train Station in England in the 1870s - a stop for the Metropolitan railway. The booking offices for the up line are on one side of the road, and those for the down line on the other. This view represents the interior of the Gower Street Station. In each the platforms are 325 ft. long and 10 ft. broad, and the stations are lighted by lateral openings through the springing of the arch which forms the roof. This arch is a portion of a circle of 32 ft. radius, with a span of 45 ft. and a rise of 9 ft. at the crown. The lateral openings are arched at the top and bottom, but the sides are flat. The width of each is 4 ft. 9 in., and the height outside 6 ft., increasing to 10 ft. at the ends opening on the platform. The openings are entirely lined with white glazed tiles, and the outward ends open into an area, the back of which is inclined at an angle of 45, and the whole also lined with white glazed tiles, and covered with glas

It starts north of Tashkent in Uzbekistan at Arys, where it branches off from the Trans-Aral Railway. It heads roughly northeast through Shymkent, Taraz, Bishkek (on a spur) to the former Kazakh capital of Almaty. The bulk of construction works was undertaken between 1926 and 1931.
