U.S. Bombers ***** For Raid On Tarawa -- Sailors on an American aircraft carrier load incendiary bombs aboard U.S. Navy planes during a raid on Tarawa, Japanese base in the Gilbert Islands. The picture was taken between bombing missions. Planes from the carrier made repeated attacks on the enemy based during a two-day period, silencing many Japanese anti-aircraft batteries and destroying other installations.
