New U.S. Air Force "Pack" Plane -- After successful flights with its cargo-carrying fuselage over the Fairchild Aircraft Division plant, the new XC-120 Pack plane for the U.S. Air Force was flight tested with the 'pod' or 'pack' removed. This feature enables heavy cargo and supplies to be flown to air strips near the front lines, the 'pod' or 'pack' removed and the wings to be flown back for another 'pod'. It could also return with an empty 'pod' to be reloaded or a load of litter patients. The
