The Order of Constantine was said to have been founded in AD343 by the Roman emperor Constantine. It received its official rules and statutes in 1190 from Isaac-Angelus Commenus, Emperor of Constantinople, and was also known as the Order of Angelics, the Order of the Golden Knights, and the Constantinian Militia of St. George. It had three ranks of members: grand cross, knight and brother-servant. The sign of the order is a red cross made up of four fleur-de-lis surrounded by a border of gold..
