Young Cardiff Man Who Ran Away from Home Now Fighting with Franco's Troops in Spain - Frank Howard Thomas, adventures Englishman from Cardiff, Photographed in the trenches at Navalcanero. Frank Howard Thomas, of Fascadale, Bryngwyn Road, Cyncoed, Cardiff was a commercial traveller for his father, a wholesale provision merchant, but he got fed up and ran away from home after leaving a note for his mother and father. He got to Liverpool, took a boat to Lisbon, crossed Portugal to Seville and asked to join General Franco's forces.
