H.M.A.S. Yarra which was sunk south of Java on March 4th, 1942, was engaged in minesweeping off the Australian coast in the early part of the Second World War. Later she was employed on convoy duties in the Red Sea and other parts. While at Singapore on February 5th, 1942, she rescued 1,800 British troops from the burning "Empress of Asia". July 25, 1952.
