Woman of Fecamp. Like the serre-tete of le Havre, this one too is decorated only to the temples. She wears a cape with hood, and stands in the port. In the background on the hill is the church of Notre-Dame-du-Salut. Grisettes, usually women working in garment or fabric industry, were so called for their grey (gris) clothes. Hand-colored fashion plate illustration by Lante engraved by Gatine from Louis-Marie Lante's "Costumes des femmes du Pays de Caux," 1827/1885. With their tall Alsation lace hats, the women of Caux and Normandy were famous for the elegance and style.
