Wichita, Kansas, 1934A typical scene at Wichita, Kansas on almost any day is to see a group of primary training planes such as these making their departure flight from the Stearman plant. The eight planes in this formation are new Navy N2S-1's fresh from the production line, leaving the factory on the way to play their part in the National Defense training program. The Stearman Aircraft Division of Boeing Airplane Co is now making quantity deliveries regularly on orders from the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Army Air Corps for upward of 3000 primary trainers, the largest number ever ordered by the U.S. Government in peacetime from one manufacturer.
