Waistcoat, Medium: silk, metallic thread Technique: embroidered, plain and twill weave, Waistcoat of silver cloth brocaded in a small flower pattern with a two and half inch border, woven in one with the cloth. Metal is bound in twill weave. Border is an elaborate combination of chenille and three kinds of fine gold cord. Design is small red roses and green foliage in chenille intertwined with a meander of gold, and ornament in meander of raised loops. Flower heads of foil outlined in fine gold bullion stitches; outline of parts of the design, of front of waistcoat, and of pockets in fine threads of gold paillettes. Form of waistcoat is slightly fitted at waist, and at bottom, corners sweep back to point. Closes from neck to point; where coat sweeps back, in twelve foil-covered buttons. No collar. Pockets shaped into side and center points of same weave as border design, and with three buttons. Back, satin, laced; lined with satin throughout. Pockets of white leather., France, ca. 1780
