A view of the mechanism by which the Titanic lifeboats were lowered, showing a pair of 'Welin Davits' on board. The Davit, an invention by Mr Axel Welin, could be found on most passenger liners. The cog on the base point allowed the boats to be lowered in a matter of seconds. Date: 27th April 1912
