A view on the Great Beardmore Glacier up which Captain Scott ascended to the plateau during December 1911 on his ill-fated expedition to the South Pole. The picture actually shows the Shackleton camp under the Granite pillar half a mile from that expedition's lower glacier deposit. The view gives a good idea of the sheer cliffs which are characteristic of South Victoria Land mountains.
