Tucson, Arizona, Hundreds joined a rally against Operation Streamline at the federal courthouse. The Department of Homeland Security program treats illegal border crossing as a crime, rather than an administrative offense, and subjects undocumented migrants to misdemeanor or felony prosecution and jail time before they are deported. Defendants are often tried in large groups. Operation Streamline has helped fuel the rapid expansion of private, for-profit immigration prisons. The courthouse rally was organized by the School of the Americas Watch, a group of religious and community activists.
