Two bands alternate through the ground of this turquoise and navy silk: one which consists of pairs of facing split-palmettes, a motif that was common from Turkey to Egypt during the 12th-14th centuries; and the other which is dominated by a series of lozenges framing the truncated form of the word al-sultan, the title bestowed upon rulers.
