Three Figures from a Tunic, 750-800. Egypt, Abbasid period, late 8th century. Tapestry weave; undyed linen and dyed wool; overall: 18.2 x 20.4 cm (7 3/16 x 8 1/16 in.); mounted: 29.2 x 29.2 cm (11 1/2 x 11 1/2 in.). Three figures are clothed in large shawls, spotted trousers, and riding boots. They awkwardly carry gifts in bowls or on trays, since their large hands and arms do not seem connected to their bodies.
