Note their 'Jolly Roger' flag; ***** Submarine "Thrasher" under the command of Lieut, H.S. Mackenzie, D.S.O. R.N. has just returned to port known as the "Double V.C." submarine, ***** the 'Lucky 13' Submarine, She was commissioned for service on April 13th 1941, was sunk a 3,500 ton supply ship on April 13th, 1942, and on the same day included among her trophies a picture of Hitler taken from an Axis supply ship which a party from the Thrasher boarded before sinking. The Victoria Cross was awarded to Lieut. P.S.W. Roberts R.N. and Petty officer T.W. Gould (then first Lieutenant and Second Coxswain respectively) for great valour while serving in H.M.S. Thrasher. January 07, 1943.
