Terracotta Nolan neck-amphora (jar) ca. 480-470 B.C. Attributed to the Brygos Painter Obverse, Eos pursuing TithonosReverse, boy fleeingTithonos on his way to school pursued by Eos, the goddess of dawn, appears to particular effect here, thanks in part to the handling of the shape. The Nolan amphora offers large areas of black glaze that not only set off the figures but even evoke the darkness before dawn. The continuous ornament contributes to the impression of motion around the vase..
