Apprenticed in 1692 to Charles Halstead, he later became a journeyman assistant in the workshop of Thomas Tompion. By 1706 he had set up his own establishment in Devereux Court, Fleet Street. His clocks and watches are known for both their inventiveness and fine craftsmanship.
