Sukotyro. The mythical creature the sukotyro (from the Chinese) was believed to be a species of elephant, even though it was "the size of an ox, had the snout of a hog, with eyes on the top of its head, not on the sides, and two large horns or teeth on the side." Niuhoff in his travels to the East Indies described it as a native of the island of Java. Handcoloured copperplate engraving from "The Naturalist's Pocket Magazine; or, Complete Cabinet of the Curiosities and Beauties of Nature" (1798~1802) published by Harrison, London.
