Sudan Officials Take Over Local Government.British Commissioners Delegating Control in the Sudan.Under the process of "Sudanisation" more and more educated Sudanese are taking over the administrative and technical posts previously held by British members of the Sudan Civil Service. The change-over is gradual but has progressed steadily in the Northern Sudan. In Nyala, a small town in the far west of the Sudan, Khalid Hamed el Melik, is the local Mamour, a version of the Assistant District Commissioner. When the D.C., Mr. Jack Wilson, leaves headquarters on trek, the Mamour often takes over control of the local government. Here is the Mamour (left) having a last. minute discussion outside the local offices as Mr. Wilson (right) prepares to go off on a two weeks' trek. Khalid Hamed el Malik comes from Dongola in the Nile Valley. During the war he served With the War Supplies Organisation and afterwards went through a course of administration in Khartoum.
