Smertenko in Paris, Determined to Reach London - Professor Smertenko at his hotel in Paris. Professor Johan Smertenko, Vice-president of the American League for a Free Palestine, arrived in Paris by air from Geneva, Switzerland; he is expected to carry out his threat to land in Britain, despite the ban on his entry. In the event of his arrival at London Airport, immigration officers would, it is believed, prevent his passing through the Customs and he would be detained until the liner returned to Paris. Smertenko, whose anti-British utterances have made his presence unwelcome to the British authorities and to Anglo-Jewish organisations, is said to be relying on his visa and the support of the United States Embassy to secure his admission to the country.
