A shipment of buffalo and elk, one male and two females of each, has left Vancouver, Canada, aboard the S.S. East gate, consigned to the Throngs Zoological Park in Sydney, Australia. The animals were selected from the Government herds in Elk Island National Park, Alberta, where more than 1000 head of buffalo as well as some 9000 head of elk, moose, and other deer roam at large over an area of 51 square miles. The above photo shows shipping pens in which two of the animals made the rail journey from Elk Island National Park to Vancouver. They are about to be loaded aboard the S.S. Eastgate. April 16, 1947.
