Shell-Cars Into Tankards -- A scene at Devonport Dockyard showing some of the finished brass and electro-plated goods made from old shell-cases.In a corner of Devonport Dockyard (Devon) three hundred people are converting old shell-cases (relics of the Battle of Britain and the Invasion of Europe) into tankards, tea-sets, ash-trays and many other domestic goods. The Electrical Engineer Managers' Department is so giving employment to men and women who, otherwise, would be out of a job. Some 400 articles are being made each week, but the target is 4,000 and old shell-cases from the world's battlefields are to become useful and decorative objects. October 13, 1946.
