The second stage of the fitting workshop, at the Grand Junction railway engine works at Crewe. Repairs of locomotive engines and the completion of new engines, take place using planing machines and slotting machines in the workshop. The workmen work under Robert Stevenson's policy, 'A locomotive engine must be put together as carefully as a watch'. Date: 24th March 1849
