The public funeral of John Cornwell, the 'boy-hero,' mortally wounded during the battle of Jutland and posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross. During the battle Cornwell's ship, the H.M.S. Chester, was hit by enemy fire and his gun-crew killed. Despite suffering severe injuries the sixteen year-old Cornwell remained at his exposed post awaiting orders throughout the fighting. He died of his wounds in hospital shortly afterwards and was buried with full honours on the 29th July 1916. 1916
