Photograph of the Cunard turbine steamer 'Carmania', built in 1905 by the John Brown Shipyard of Clydebank. The 'Carmania' was reputed to be the first very large turbine steamer, with a gross tonnage of 20,000. During sea trials in November 1905, she achieved a steady speed of nineteen and a half knots.
