Philip Snowden, 1st Viscount Snowden (1864-1937), English politician born at Cowling in the West Riding of Yorkshire. Entered Parliament in 1908 but lost his seat in 1918. Re-elected in 1922, in Ramsay Macdonald's 1924 administration he became the first Labour (socialist) Chancellor of the Exchequer. Created Viscount Snowden in 1931.
