As part of a protest at the House of Commons, two suffragettes - Muriel Matters and Helen Fox - chain themselves to the grille of the Ladies' Gallery. The chains were bound with wool, so that no noise would be made while they did so. In order to remove the protesters, attendants are forced to remove the grille, the symbolic barrier between women and the floor of the House of Commons. 28 October 1908
