The carved pieces of inlay with the characteristic arabesque of split-leaf palmettes, and the sharp contrasts between the dark wood and the ivory are found in many such panels. A third object from the collection (07.236.58), a fragment of a six-pointed star, follows the same design as the octagonal panel.
