Panel 13th-14th century This panel fragment of a six-pointed star is typical of Mamluk woodwork. The carved pieces of inlay with the characteristic arabesque of split-leaf palmettes, and the sharp contrasts between the dark wood and the ivory are found in many such panels. A pair of octagonal wooden panels from the collection (91.1.1609 and 91.1.1610) follow the same design as this fragment. Possibly all three panels were part of a larger object, such as a minbar or a wooden door.. Panel. 13th-14th century. Wood; carved, inlaid with plain and carved ivory. Attributed to Egypt, Cairo.
